Recincho

General: The Recincho is a robust and colorful breed with a colorful history. Its origins trace to the early 1920s, to the holdings of a merchant and his immigrant wife, a Basque woman with a fondness for cats. When her husband traveled overseas, he always returned with a pair of Siamese as a gift for her. The first Recinchos were the surprise offspring of a single American bobtail who visited their estate at an opportune time to mate with several dams. The litters presented such beautiful and precocious kittens that the woman took care to preserve their lineage, year after year. Later breeders introduced traits like curled ears and varied coats, and codified a color standard -- Red, cinnamon, and chocolate (re-cin-cho). Varied litters are a trademark of the breed, and bobtails are especially prized since they hearken to the cat’s unique origin.
